DAILY LIFE IN THE CENTRES

The mamans and teachers in the centers are all local people who share the children's language and culture. They have an employee contract and are recruited locally by SPES Togo. Final hiring decisions are taken by the SPES International Board of Directors.

Staff receive regular trainings from qualified instructors. The two center directors provide daily monitoring and organise team meetings to quickly identify problems. Staff are encouraged to suggest solutions. The children who arrived from 2001 onwards are now young adults. The organization is constantly adapting.

The children and adolescents participate as much as they can in daily chores, from cooking to tidying up. The centers host singing and dancing workshops and many festivals throughout the year. The SPES chess club take part in local championships, and our players are very successful.
